Trivia Quiz #11

Here's your monthly trivia. In this episode: questions related to current events such as 52, Countdown, WWIII, the Lightning Saga, and "the Levitz Legion".

1. Which Legion villain(s) have had a distinct counterpart in the 20th/21st century? This excludes those where the 20th and 30th century versions are the same person (e.g., Luthor or Mordru), and don't count races like the Dominators.

2. When C.O.M.P.U.T.O. was created in the 20th century, what pre-existing robotic components were used?

3. What was Paul Levitz's first Legion-related writing credit?

4. In the original JLA/JSA/LSH crossover, where were the demons defeated in the end? What other familiar 30th century location bore a striking resemblance to the location in the first part of the question?

5. What war was Mike Essad associated with?

6. Which pre-existing 20th century DCU villain(s) did Karate Kid fight when he came to the 20th century in his own series?

7. Name the 15 members of the JLA, JSA, and LSH who met during their original team-up in JLA 147-148.

8. They were never identified as such, but where did we see what was probably the Earth-3 Legion?

2. A Mother Box and a responsometer.

The rest I either don't know or sort of half-know and might as well leave for someone else. Although I'm disappointed I can't think of anybody for #1...

1. Wasn't there a 20th century Persuader introduced at one point? Does Bizarro count? Darkseid was the same, er, person, the Emerald Eye was around in L.E.G.I.O.N...hmm.

4. This is a question that makes me wish I didn't have my comics in storage. I'll get back to you. :-)

5. He was Soljer, right? I think it was World War V.

6. I think he fought Copperhead at one point. But my memory's fuzzy.

8. In the big anniversary issue during the reboot when the Trapper grabs evil Legionnaires "that might have been" or somesuch. That's my guess. :-)

Hard questions this time!

1. There was a 20th Century Persuader named Cole Parker. He appeared in Superman and was killed by Osiris in 52 recently. How about the Brainiac/Computer Tyrants of Colu/Pulsar Stargrave? The Sun-Eater appeared in the Final Night storyline.

2. C.O.M.P.U.T.O. happened during my "five year gap" away from the Legion. No clue on this one.

3. Does Karate Kid #1 count? If not, I think it was Superboy 225, where Wildfire was elected leader.

4. I think the demons were trapped in the JLA Satellite. Medicus One is the look-alike.

5. He was Soljer, but it was World War VI.

6. I think it was Major Disaster and the Lord of Time.

7. Shadow Lass, Princess Projectra, Wildfire, Lightning Lad, and Chameleon Boy from the Legion; Power Girl, Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Flash, and GL from the JSA; and Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Black Canary from the JLA.

8. That would be the five Legion traitors from Superboy #117.

A few more thoughts...

1. Mr Mxyztplk, Servants of Darkness
2. Didn't Brainy also use components of an Omnicom?
3. Levitz had done work on several issues of the Amazing World of DC Comics, but I believe KK#1 was his first credited writing assignment.
4. Although the demons were defeated up in orbit, the folks on the ground were at Ice City in Antarctica, which also shows up in The Six-Legged Legionnaire
6. Major Disaster is the only one I can think of that had a previous histor, unless the Revenger, Master Hand, Commander Blud, the Gyro-Master or Pulsar appeared somewhere else earlier.

Hmm, some toughies here...

1. Mxyzptlk (sp), Bizarro (maybe), the Servants of Darkness from the GDS, the Suneater, Brainiac/Colu Tyrants or whatever they are called, Dev-Em, Persuader (Cole Porter or some such), and Emerald Eye. My mind blanks on the rest.

2. As I recall, a Mother Box and Responsometer.

3. Karate Kid #1, as I recall.

4. JLA Satellite. Medicus One is its 30th Century counterpart.

5. Either World War V or VI. Mike Essad was the Soljer. (Anti-matter weapons are cool!) :)

6. Major Disaster, and maybe the Lord of Time. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this one.

7.
JLA: Batman, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Superman; JSA: Dr. Fate, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Power Girl; LSH: Brainiac 5, Princess Projectra, Shadow Lass, Sun Boy, Wildfire.

There were also appearances in the issues of Ultra Boy, Chameleon Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, and one other that I think I missed.

8. The Time Trapper grabs the "evil Legionnaires" in one of the anniversary issues. The reboot one, iirc. What do I need to do with these questions, dig out my comics or something? :)
