Return of the R.E.B.E.L.S.

Thanks to Mo Titans for pointing this one out at superpoivoir.com. It's not up on the regular sites yet for February's previews, but I'm sure it'll be there Monday afternoon.

I have no idea why someone who looks like Validus is on the team. Strata and Dox are recognizable. Anyone remember what happened to the regular cast at the end of the L.E.G.I.O.N./R.E.B.E.L.S. series?

Oookay, where did he get Validus?

We're doubting the genius bastard Vril Dox couldn't recruit Validus now? This a guy who had LOBO on his team.

It's not bad enough they are going with the R.E.B.E.L.S moniker (awful choice over L.E.G.I.O.N), but they are again messing up with "bringing 31st Century" heroes and villains to the 21st Century. Will they never learn? Why don't they keep it like it was during the winning period of Giffen/Waid/Kitson?

Same old, same old... someone messed up with Dox, and then he rebels... I'd prefer a new L.E.G.I.O.N. mini-series instead, with a better treatment for this group, maybe showing them in the new status quo with the return of the Green Lantern Corps.

More like how did he get Validus to the 21st Century?

They've got a Persuader-clone appearing in Teen Titans who says she's an ancestor of the "real" Persuader, and we the Emerald Eye of Ekron was a plot point of 52 for awhile (as well as L.E.G.I.O.N.), so the Fatal Five don't necessarily have to travel back in time.

Anyway, there's no evidence that Validus is bound by our pitiful concepts of age, he'll just obey whoever is smart and amoral enough to take over his brain, be it Tharok or Dox. He could just be really old and not tell anyone because he doesn't have a mouth.

PS: My word verification is "fixistic". That makes me smile

Wasn't the first Validus Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad's son sent back in time and mutanted or something? My memory is failing me right now.

It'd be nice if they did a Showcase Presents: L.E.G.I.O.N as a tie-in.

I wonder what it means that this "Validus" has green skin.

Here's my question.

"he's basing his new group on the greatest heroes and villains of the 31st Century!"

Why, exactly, is he doing this specific thing?

Maybe the green skin indicates that this isn't the Validus we all know and love, but is the ultimate fate of that rat, Brainiac 3?

If Dox' baby was Brainiac 3. Was he? he was smart enough, at least, and enough of a dick.

Originally Validus was one of Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad's twin babies, stolen at birth and mutated by Darkseid in an attempt to kill them.

By the way, I can't get the superpoivoir.com link to work.

@matthew - why is he doing that? I dunno, we'll have to buy the issue to find out.

@afob - the whole Validus retcon of him being their son (which is great, in my opinion) took place after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Maybe somehow that's not canon any more?

By the way, the solicitation copy also says that Supergirl and the Legion appears. Which Supergirl and which Legion?

I think that the "Supergirl and the Legion" comment means it's the Threeboot Legion appearing. I still stand by my assumption that at the end of L3W ALL three Legions will be intact in some form and the move to Adventure Comics will allow tales of all three Legions to be told (alternating arcs perhaps), which should hopefully keep ALL Legion fans satisfied.

the supergirl will almost certainly be post crisis Kara. I also think that this could have sprang from bedard's threeboot issues. He wrote the issue where kara was unceremoniously thrown back to the 21st century. Maybe this is an epilogue where B5 gets on his knees and grovels his apologies.(and then they live happily ever after- hey leave me in my delusions! :D)

As for what happened to the regular cast, I recall Dox and Strata resigning to raise their mind-wiped evil not-a-genius baby, Captain Comet assuming command of L.E.G.I.O.N. with Phase as his second in command, Strata, Garv and Telepath were all on the team, and Borb had sacrificed himself to a group of aliens who wanted to dissect the brain.

I saw in Infinite Crisis that Dox was back in control of L.E.G.I.O.N., and you could see Strata in a cameo as well. No idea what happened to anyone else.
