DVD/Happy Meal tie-in update

TV Shows on DVD has an update on the first Legion animated show DVD, a little more than we knew last week. In addition to the first four episodes broadcast (not the first four in alleged production order) and a 10-minute Paul Levitz interview, the press release also notes that
Legion of Super Heroes will be supported by an online media campaign, as well as added awareness due to the Legion of Super Heroes action figures being included in McDonald's Happy Meals in August. The DVD release of Legion of Super Heroes will be supported by a Superman/Justice League/Super Friends catalog promotion during August 13th – October 19th, 2007.

I note that the promotion start time coincides nicely with the start of Klordny Week.

  1. Hmm, as someone who hasn't eaten McDonald's in over nine years and has no plans to start again, I'm rather disappointed that we're finally getting this kind of exposure and I won't be able to get my hands on them. Except maybe through eBay or something, which I'm sure will be far more expensive than they're worth.

Ah well, I'm just happy that the Legion is at last getting some kind of mass exposure.

Sucks that the DVD won't be a season set, though. What's with this lame four-episode crap, anyway? Did WB do this with the various other DCU series? Can we expect a full season at a later date? Gah, too frustrating!

  2. I wonder if the toys will get here, since the cartoon isn't even shown on cable....

  3. Patrick - from what I've been reading, this is typical of Warner Home Video for the animated shows, same thing happened with at least one of the Justice League shows. They will sell the season in three DVDs, then a while later issue the whole thing in one set.

For the Happy Meal, I expect five toys - Superman, Brainiac 5, Bouncing Boy, Timber Wolf, and Lightning Lad. I'm guessing that the two females won't be issued. Then you've got all the promotional stuff that goes up inside the store: hanging mobiles, tray placemats, etc.

MaGnUs: probably not, if you don't get the show on TV. There's always eBay.

  4. Patrick--you can get Happy Meal toys without buying the meals. I think you have to pay something for them, but if you want 'em, you don't have to eat McDonald's food to get them. :-)

  5. Mickey D's has much improved, especially if you can get their McRib or Angus sandwiches, both released only regionally to date. And their salads kick veggie arse. So set aside preconceptions and go in and get the goodies, paying for 'em if you must.

I'm glad to just have the episodes (two of which I've missed) on DVD without the damn commercials, and with the Levitz interview.

  6. In any case, they'll probably show the toon here eventually.
