WonderCon '10: Geoff Johns & DC Nation

Newsarama live-blogged the Geoff Johns and DC Nation panels at WonderCon today. Nothing Legion-related that I saw in the Johns panel (though the live-blogger may have missed something), but there was this from the DC Nation panel:

"The one big legacy group from the DCU that I can't find any substantial recaps for is the Legion—do I just have crappy retailers?" DiDio: "There are no crappy retailers." He continued, talking about Paul Levitz's return to the Legion of Super Heroes, saying that the writer (and former DC president)'s original run on the characters was one of the best received DC comics of all time.
I'm not sure what the "substantial recaps" refers to here, but we should find out later.

I'm guessing the person asking the question meant a good TPB with collected Legion stories to sample if you're not familiar with the book/team. I'd recommend 1050 years into the future.

I was at WOnderCon and the question seemed to be referring to the lack of a "Legion of Super-Heroes: Secret Origin" mini-series (or something like that) to bring new readers up to speed. The answer implied that Paul Levitz will be doing some recapping in the regular series.

While I tire of origins being retold over and over; that sort of thing for the LSH would better be done as a mini, or even a straight out graphic novel for people to buy BEFORE the new book comes out and hook them.

If I'm not mistaken, Levitz will be doing a 6-parter in Adventure Comics retelling the origin. So then it'll be collected in a trade paperback, and available for the retailers to stock.

That's great; but it should be done as a standalone mini from the start with "ORIGIN" or "YEAR 0" or "JUMP IN HERE IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN AFRAID OF THE LEGION" marked on the cover.
