Trivia Quiz #49

This is Trivia Quiz #49. I've been doing this monthly for 4 years now. Most of the questions have been my own, a few here and there I've taken (and tried to credit) from various message boards. For Quiz #50 next month, I want to turn this over to you guys - send me (do NOT post them here) your favorite Legion trivia questions with the answers (what, do you think I know everything?) and I'll post a bunch next month.

No particular theme this week, just questions that have been sitting around minding their own business, waiting for me to post them.

1. Who were Jilly, Helen, Charlie, Sophie, Donna, and Jane?

2. Name the 5 LSH members who held wands in an attempt to attract lightning and revive the dead Lightning Lad.

3. Fortress Lad was from Fwang, in the 30th century. When did we see residents of Fwang in the 20th/21st century?

4. Dave Cockrum redesigned a number of Legionnaires' costumes when he was artist. Here's an alphabetical list of those Legionnaires, put them in chronological order of when Cockrum changed their costumes. (Note: in several stories, multiple Legionnaires got new costumes; these 12 Legionnaires got new costumes in a total of 6 different stories.)

  • Chameleon Boy
  • Colossal Boy
  • Duo Damsel
  • Element Lad
  • Light Lass
  • Lightning Lad
  • Phantom Girl
  • Princess Projectra
  • Shadow Lass
  • Shrinking Violet
  • Star Boy
  • Timber Wolf
5. What do these five Legionnaires have in common, in this order, that no other Legionnaires have: Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, Brainiac 5, and Dawnstar.

6. How many Legionnaires (including honorary and reserve but not imaginary stories or Elseworlds) have had their own solo series, miniseries, or one-shot? That is, a book with their name in the title where they were the star, not someone who was in an anthology series or a backup strip.

7. Which Legionnaire(s) did Wally Wood draw, and where did that appear?

5. They were on the covers of the five issues of FC:L3W.

6. Superman/Superboy, Supergirl, Superboy II, Mon-El/Valor, Cosmic Boy, Timber Wolf, Karate Kid, Inferno if you count her as a Legionnaire which I don't, Impulse/Bart Allen if he had any kind of honorary/reserve status, Jimmy Olsen. That's got to be all of 'em, right? I don't think Pete Ross or Lana Lang ever had their own comic.

1. The mall girls in Inferno's solo series?

2. Superboy, Lightning Lass, Mon-El, Chameleon Boy, & Sun Boy. Proty, not a LSH member, was disguised as Iron Butt Imra.

3. L.E.G.I.O.N.?

3. The Green Lantern: Mosaic series from the early 90's.

1. The identities taken on by Allura, Lesla-Lar, Superboy, Krypto, Beppo, and Laurel Kent (respectively) when exposed to the same piece of red kryptonite that turned Supergirl into Satan Girl?

2. I thought they already had names, but...okay. How about Jilly, Helen, Charlie, Sophie, and Donna?

3. In the little-known and less-regarded post-Crisis story "Secret Origin of the Fortress of Solitude"?

4. Trick question: they were all Chameleon Boy.

5. They appeared in the fifth question in Trivia Quiz #49 on The Legion Omnicom?

6. Red Tornado (an earlier incarnation of Wildfire, if you believe that stupid idea), Starman (sooner or later we'll find out that they were all Thom), and the long-forgotten 1982 Arm-Fall-Off Boy Special by Hembeck?

7. I've wracked my brain trying to come up with a pun on "Wally Wood" = "Hollywood" = "Dollywood", but I jsut can't come up with anything. So I'll just guess Kent Shakespeare for no good reason at all.

6. Karate Kid, Cosmic Boy, Superboy, Supergirl, Timber Wolf, Valor, Jimmy Olsen.

7) Wood inked most issues of Superboy from 153-161; so Superboy at a minimum, and possibly Pete Ross and Lana Lang. I don't think there's any other LSH member appearances in those issues, though.

Re: Question 4:

Duo Damsel's costume was actually designed by Nick Pascale of Brooklyn, and first appeared in Adventure Comics # 403. Dave did give her long boots, though.

Also, a little known fact is that Light Lass' costume was influenced by/based upon a design that was sent to him by Carol Strickland. He had forgotten that she and Lightning Lad were twins, and was going to go in a different direction with it, but Strickland's design made him tie the two costumes together.

Michael, I e-mailed you a quiz question.

Duo Damsel's boots were also designed by fan, Nick Pascale and were based on boots in the music video: These boots are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra, after Dave asked Nick for a redesign!
