So, about that new DC reboot.....
In case you've been hiding under a rock lately, you've probably heard about the upcoming DC reboot coming in September. The TWO new Legion titles were announced today on io9:
Seven heroes from the 31st century have traveled back to the present day. Their mission: Save their future from total annihilation. When the future tech they brought with them fails, they find themselves trapped in a nightmarish world and an ultimate struggle to survive. LEGION LOST #1 will be written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Pete Woods, fresh off an acclaimed run of Action Comics.
In the 31st century, the Legion of Superheroes is reeling from the loss of seven of their finest — and trying desperately to keep their youngest recruits alive against a series of terrible new threats. LEGION OF SUPERHEROES #1 will be written by fan-favorite Legion writer Paul Levitz and illustrated by Francis Portela.
Commentary from io9, iFanboy, Bleeding Cool, the DC Source blog, and the DC Universe message boards.
Meanwhile, Inside Pulse wonders if that's a miscolored Cosmic Boy on the Legion Lost cover at top, or if they're changing his ethnicity like the L3 Star Boy.

Again they try to have a Legion set in the present. Boooooring.
I'm still trying to figure out how the present day mean that when their "future tech" kicks it the team has to struggle to survive. And since when is the present that much of a nightmare?
Leaving aside of course that in recent years there's already been "stuck in the present to save the future" Legion stories. Last Stand of New Krypton comes immediately to mind ...
And meanwhile there's ... equally as much of a potential meatgrinder back in the future.
Not impressed, DC.
Re: LEGION LOST, I'm not sure we should assume that our lost Legionnaires are actually trapped on present-day Earth.
The solicit notes that "they find themselves trapped in a nightmarish world"...and the locale that Gates has 'ported them into certainly looks to be teeming with a myriad of distinct alien races rather than your run-of-the-mill Earthian types.
I'm thinking this will be DCnU's cosmic team (or at least one of them) and that we won't often see the Lost interacting with their Earth-based forebears.
DiDio confirmed that LSH, except for the seven legionnaires stranded in the present, will be one of the book with the least changes. That, and the fact that Tellus is in the Legion Lost team, and Dragonwing on the Legion proper; makes me breathe a bit easier, it looks like retro-new continuity is being maintained, at least for the LSH.
Sad that Adventure is not going on with the Academy stories, and that Levitz is writing only one of the books.
Re: my previous LOST post. Looks like this WON'T be too cosmic of a book after all. Per the io9 interview, "this is a team of Legionnaires who are trapped on Earth with a very specific mission to accomplish. They're not sure how to do it given the parameters of how the world exists right now."

I believe the unidentifiable Legion Lost character could be either Tyroc or someone new.
I am just glad NuDC is not screwing with the Legion too much. I wonder if Legion Lost will be used to lead up to the big comic event, the LSH is supposed to be at the center of.
I echo the sentiments that the overall rerereboot of the DCnU isn't affecting the Legion too much. I didn't particularly warm to Dragonwing as a character in the Academy stories. I really hope the Legion doesn't also recruit Chemical Bozo and any of the other Academy characters. Surely they're too green to become Legionnaires?
I thought the black guy was Tyroc too, but when did he get hair? The costume design looks more like Tyroc's than like Jacques's or Rokk's.
I notice that the promo on The Source does NOT say that the L-Lost folks are on earth--and that drawing certainly doesn't look like present-day earth!
Finally, the Legion promo says "recruits", and with seven members gone, I have to assume they'll be inducting several subs/academites.
His costume is more recent Tyroc/Troy Stewart. His hair reminds me of Kid Quantum/James Cullen. He could also be a non-bald Gear/I.Z.O.R., which would be an interesting take on the "When the future tech they brought with them fails..." teaser.
I asked Pete Woods about this on Facebook, with a link to the Inside Pulse article. His entire response: "It's Tyroc."
