Getting caught up

Between being away and being sick, I've slacked off here. I'll try to get caught up. In the meantime, here's a new newsy bit from Dan Didio's Q&A on Newsarama.

Dan:

How big of foreshadowing are Cosmic Boys thoughts in Superman: Secret Origin #2 in relationship to the 2010 Superman event?

DiDio: It does have some slight foreshadowing for the upcoming Superman storyline. And I would be misleading if I said that the Legion did not play into that story in some way, shape or form.

I've got a whole bunch of Bits of Legionnaire Business to cover (plus the last part of the original Adventure letter columns), some trivia answers to give, and some new questions to put forth.

But here's a question, I need a new tag for all of the Legion's new stories in Adventure Comics and in the Superman stories in the post-Lightning Saga, post-Legion of 3 Worlds, Johns-reboot timeline. Got any suggestions? Retro-boot, De-boot, Un-boot?

I think most people were calling in Johnsboot, but that hardly works with Johns off the title now.

I like unboot

L3 also might work, since it's Levitz' third run in the title, although that could be confused with the standard abbreviation for the Legionnaires 3 title.

L-Naught as in L-Zero as I still think that Johns version is not the grown up Levitz Legion.

OR Version 4.5

I'd say unboot or even double unboot.

De-reboot

I like "retro." It has such an...er...retro flavor.

Retroboot is more appropriate, because it is a retrofit of Legion as it served Johns.
If that doesn't work, I'd go with NewBoot. Never De-boot because it was not about simply ignoring all chronology after who-knows-which-issue, but altering till we get something that fit Johns's idea. I mean, it is very clear Legion is not exactly the same pre-Crisis

retroboot, for all reasons already mentioned.

Retroboot is the one that's caught on in my circle since it's the most descriptive way to describe exactly what 'this' Legion is.

Retroboot seems the most apt considering the upcoming writer.

(Come to think of it, Cary Bates is also back on the comics writing scene lately, isn't he? Hmm...)

I've seen retroboot used several places already, and it seems the most fitting to me. I wish we could really call this the classic Legion, but there are such obvious (and unnecessary) differences from the original.

How about "Selective, Supergirl-free Reimagining of the Classic Legion as a Xenophobic Dystopia with Legionnaires Inspired by the Lately Rebooted Superman Acting Strangely Out of Character, and Other Major, Often Unexplained and Unnecessary Departures from Pre-Crisis Canon-Boot" Legion.

Too windy perhaps? Retro-boot it is then.

I've taken to referring to them as the Earth-0 Legion on my site. I also use your "L1" designation for them. I feel like using "boot" in the name is now more a dirty word (or suffix, as it may be) and adds more confusion, if that's possible?

How about ...

("Retroboot," by the way.)

"Retroboot" works for me.

Call it what it was when it started: The Lightning Saga.

Calling it the "Lightning Saga Legion" becomes increasingly untenable as we move further away from that inception point, because people will increasingly be unable to have a mental reference for what/when that was.

The "reboot/Archie" Legion was sometimes called the "post-Zero Hour" Legion. In 1996, less than two years after, that still worked. Now, 15 years (to the month!) after, it doesn't work as well. "Zero Hour" has to bring with it a sense of late 1994, of what was going on in comics (and the world) at the time, and it requires both a memory of the ZH event and a little love for it, enough to care enough to call that the post-ZH Legion, anyway. What else was going on in comics in 1994? Heck if I can tell you, but "post-Zero Hour" tells me that there's embedded info I should know.

Or to put it another way: "If the 'Lightning Saga' had been worth remembering and honoring, that might be a good name for this Legion. It's a bad name for this Legion."

Don't make me remember "The Lightning Saga", and don't make me eat strained peas.
